This oil painting in the works is for a fall semester at the Smart School mentorship program. The theme of the art is “The Last Human Leaving Earth”.
I chose to draft a scene portraying the machine that would allow them to leave the Earth while leaving the state of the planet off screen up to viewer interpretation, leaving hints and visual cues within the surroundings.
I became obsessed with the idea that the characters would be walking into another dimension or world, so I aimed at basing the ship’s design heavily on a particle accelerator. The drawing needed to be as detailed as possible and as clean as I could make it if I were to transfer it to a painting surface. I mapped out as much of the drawing as I could digitally and when the time came to working traditionally, I found the flexible ship’s curve to be indispensable in creating the curves of the bridge, interlocking circles of the interior and the railing system.
The final is looking to be 20” x 30” painted with oil on panel. Stay tuned!
